NOTE: I've left this page up for historical reasons. The rally happened, many adventures were had, and the five of us in two cars who did the trip had a brilliant time. I probably won't try to organise another group rally like this in the future; it's far more work than simply planning a road trip for a single car and passengers.

I had such a great time when I did the 2007 Land's End to Orkney Morris Minor rally that my thoughts turned to organising a rally of my own in 2008. Ireland is a place that I have wanted to visit for many years, and exploring it as part of a group of like-minded Morris Minor enthusiasts can only enhance the experience. Thus was born the Around Ireland Rally (AIR for short; pronounced like the Irish name for the island).

We will sail over from Holyhead to Dublin on the 30th of August 2008, travel clockwise around the whole island over the course of a week, attend the Kilbroney Show at Rostrevor, and sail back from Dun Laoghaire on Sunday the 7th of September. Some of the places we plan to visit along the way include: Kilkenny, Blarney, Cork, Mizen Head, the Dingle Peninsula, the Burren, the Cliffs of Moher, Galway, Donegal, Malin Head, the Giant's Causeway, Belfast, the Mourne Mountains, and Dublin city.

We expect to cover an average of about 200 miles per day by a relaxed scenic route, stopping to see ancient monuments and natural beauty spots along the way. In the evenings we intend to visit live music venues near to our accommodation. This will be a fun and relaxing holiday, travelling around a beautiful land, meeting interesting people, and enjoying the experience of using your classic car the way it was meant to be used. In the Morris Minor's 60th anniversary year, why not take your car on an adventure to remember?

There is no fee to take part in the rally; you simply have to pay your own expenses (mainly the ferry, petrol, food, and accommodation). We have obtained discounted ferry rates on the Stena Line ferry from Holyhead. Some of us will be staying in Youth Hostels to keep costs down while others in the party will be staying in B&Bs. All you need is a Morris Minor that can manage 1500 miles or so over the course of a week (easy!).

Please email me on alex at alexholden dot net if you have any comments or questions, or are interested in coming with us.

If you are going to a Morris Minor event and would like to help promote the rally, please consider printing out some of these flyers and handing them out. I will be attending the National Rally - ask for me in the website area of the branch alley.
